Studio Gear

Studio Gear is a facility for sound recording and mixing. Studio Gear may be used to record musicians, voice over artists for advertisements or dialogue replacement in television, film, animation or to record their accompanying musical sound tracks. This is usually done in a room called the studio or live room, where instrumentalists and vocalists can make music with ease.

Studio Gear is carefully designed around the principles of room acoustics to generate a set of spaces with the acoustical properties required for recording sound with accuracy and exactness. This will consist of both room treatment and sound proofing to avoid sound from leaving the property.

Studio Gear consists of equipments such as:
  • Microphones
  • Reference monitors
  • Mixing console
  • Multi track recorder
  • Keyboard
  • Acoustic drum kit
  • Music workstation
  • Digital audio workstation

Studio Gear consists of Home recording equipments. Home Recording is the practice of recording in a private home, other than in a professional recording studio. A studio set up for home recording is called a project studio or home studio. Home recording is practiced by singer song writers, indie bands, documentarians, podcasters and so on. The cost of audio equipment has been dropping steadily in recent years, and information about recording techniques has become increasingly accessible due to the internet. These trends have resulted in a spectacular enlarge in the popularity of home recording, and a change in the recording industry toward recording in the home studio.

It consists of recording device, speakers and input devices. Until the late 1970s, music could be recorded moreover on low-quality tape recorders or on large, expensive reel to reel tape machines. Due to their high price and particular nature, reel-to-reel machines were only practical for professional studios.  In the year of 1990s, analog tape machines were displaced by digital recorders and computer based digital audio workstations. Now you just need a computer and recording interface.

Software applications are more dependent on the audio recording hardware than the computer they are running; therefore, typical high-end computer hardware is less of a priority unless midi is involved. If no mixing console is used and all mixing is done using only a keyboard and mouse, this is referred to as mixing in the box. "OTB" is used when mixing with other hardware not just the PC software.

DJ Mixer

A DJ mixer is used to mix  together 2 or more tracks by emerging them as one continuous track. DJ mixes are usually performed using a DJ mixer and multiple sounds sources, such as CD players, Turntables, digital audio players, computer sounds and samplers and effect units. A DJ mix set is usually performed live in front of an audience in a nightclub, party, or rave setting.

Mixers can also be used live on radio or recorded in a studio. In live situations, the sequence of the DJ set is a dynamic process. The DJ chooses tracks partially in retort to the activity on the dance floor. If the dance floor becomes less active, the DJ will make a judgment as to what track will enlarge dance floor activity. This may involve shifting the tempo or changing the general mood of the set. Track choices are also due, in part, to where the DJ wishes to take his or her audience. In this way, the resulting mix set is brought about through a symbiotic relationship between audience and DJ.

Studio DJs have the magnificence of spending more time on their mix, which often leads to productions that could never be realized in real-time. DJ s frequently hand out their recorded mixes on CD-Rs or as digital audio files via websites or pod casts for promotional purposes. Many popular DJs liberate their mixes commercially on a compact disc. When DJ sets are distributed unnervingly via the Internet, they are generally presented as a single unbroken audio file. Cue sheets may be provided by the DJ or fans to permit the set to be burned to a CD, or listened to, as a series of separate tracks in the way it would be produced as a commercial mix.

Types of mixers:

Club Mixer:
A club mixer usually features a large number of channels, usually 4, with a transferable cross fader so that different sources can be all plugged in at once and mixed from.

Scratch Mixer:
A scratch mixer is usually one that is designed especially for turntablists, and features high grade cross faders for making the art form of scratching better.

Studio Mixer:
A studio mixer has a large number of channels and normally no cross fader, it is normally used for mixing entity instruments or microphones jointly, and will probably be used by radio Disc.

DJ lighting can be controlled by an internal sound activation, where the unit has a built-in sound to light function. Other control options are master-slave (daisy chain) and DMX control.

Lasers:
Lasers are moderately new type of DJ light. They use a laser diode and an array of mirrors to project multiple colors and beams of light

LED Lights:
Now adays most lights are LED lights. These types of lights last longer and are more energy efficient. LED stage lighting instruments are use light emitting diodes as a light source.
